Detox is the first stage of any addiction treatment. As drugs penetrate and affect all the body of a person who takes ones, it stays in one’s system influencing it and remaining detectable for quite a long time, depending on a particular part of the system. In blood and saliva its half-life lasts from a few hours to a few days, in urine a bit longer or equally with blood, hair can contain drug traces up to three months. And these terms only become longer if drug abuse has been happening for a long time.
There are two main ways to detox one’s body: a natural, or so-called ‘cold turkey’ detox, and a medical detox. The former one is undertaken by a person themselves, out of any special facility, simply stopping using drugs and establishing healthier lifestyle such as good diet and sleep habits, physical activity, supportive environment etc. However, it is hard to sustain harsh withdrawal symptoms and not start falling into relapse. The latter includes being detoxified under professional supervision, with medication to facilitate withdrawal symptoms, psychological support of doctors and peers when necessary and in a shorter amount of time (up to a week).
Also, there are normally four-five kinds of biological materials required for drug testing. Among those are urine, blood, saliva, sweat and hair. In majority of cases, urine and blood are taken for screening.
In clinical conditions various kinds of detoxification are practiced. One of those is detox with medical food supplements to fasten one’s metabolism. Metabolism speed is one of the factors influencing the time drugs need to leave a body, which results in blood and urine getting clean faster than usually.
Another one way used in clinics is sauna. With sweat being one of the things giving a drug abuser away it is important to speed up its secretion and further release. Physical exercises are a way to go as well. A number of intense activities can positively influence velocity of sweat release.
At home one can also take some of these measures. Here is the look at detox options for certain body materials.
Blood
To cleanse one’s blood faster, one can arrange a special detox diet including plenty of liquids, fruits and ‘light’ products. If a person has an opportunity to consult a doctor, additional food supplements may be added to a diet. However, one should not get carried away with this measure. The goal is to speed up metabolism without harming one’s health.
Sweat
Any way to get rid of sweat is good here. Physical exercises, sauna, working outside if one has a garden or something like this will help in that. Again, one must realistically evaluate to what extent these procedures are possible and harmless. ‘Overdose’ of physical activities and high temperatures may cause quite bad consequences as well, especially when one’s health is already not in a good condition.
Saliva
The most convenient test to perform, it is mostly used for random on-the-job testing. Among the simplest ways to detox here are either not taking any drugs for a few hours before testing or use something containing a small amount of alcohol-based stuff, even mouthwash, so that conditions for performing a test would become unfavorable. At the same time, one has to be aware that such kind of behavior may seem suspicious to an employer or people checking the sample.
Hair
One of the trickiest tests to fool, hair testing includes analysis on one’s hairs follicles. There are a number of shampoos that help to clean hair from substances, but they don’t guarantee success and are of some help only if just a little amount of drugs have been taken. Also, if a person who is expected to pass testing is bald, hairs from any other part of the body can be taken. Heavy drug abusers who have been consuming for a long period have no chance to succeed in passing a hair test, as their samples will be too full of the substance to get clean.
Urine
If one has a few days, urine gets well clean within this term. But if there is very limited amount of time available, other ways are present. Some of the simplest things to do is to ask a clean friend to help out, in case one can bring a urine sample from home. If that’s not an option, dilution of one’s own sample is possible. This can be done whether with warm water or special substances. Nonetheless, there are certain risks regarding this option. Dilution reduces the concentration of drug in urine, but it may also change the sample so that it will not meet a number of parameters normal urine sample should contain, such as amount of natural substances and specific gravity. These discrepancies make the urine sample suspect and lead to another screening. The next one is highly likely to be stricter. Internal dilution, which to some extent relates to changing one’s diet, is both dangerous and not productive, as it changes the chemical balance of urine and immediately gives a person away.
There are a number of substances on the market that can make drugs in urine less detectable, including even artificial urine itself. However, many of them are traceable with the means laboratories have, and it is necessary to take a very close look to choose one. At the same time, some household substances also meet the same purpose, if added into a sample immediately after collecting it. Those are salt, vinegar, nitrites and chromates that are likely to make a sample get tested as a ‘false negative’. Still, even with negative result urine will not be considered liable for drug testing if any of its natural properties are distorted. Such sample will be known to have been manipulated upon and will be assigned drug positive.
It is vital to take into account that any measure must be taken with extreme caution to avoid health problems and any problematic conditions that may lead to serious temporary or even permanent consequences! Remember that any action taken without careful consideration and consultation may result into situation far worse than an upcoming drug testing! Take care of your own health!
